History of Whitewater Rafting Jackson Hole

Snake River Rafting dates back to 1811 when the first attempt to conquer the river was planned. At that time, nobody had any formal navigational training or the proper equipment as we do today, making it too difficult and dangerous. Therefore, it was duly given the nickname “The Mad River”. It wasn’t until 1940 that Clyde Smith was able to navigate his way through the Snake River Canyon successfully.
