When and where will we meet for our whitewater rafting or float trip?
For the Whitewater Rafting, Combo Trips and the First Light Scenic Float, we meet 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. For the breakfast and lunch Scenic Float Trips, we will meet 15 minutes prior to the arranged departure time.
Our meeting spot is at 945 West Broadway Jackson, in The Hillside Building. It’s easy to find, just look for the large American flag out front. Additionally, you can use the Scott Lane/Budge Drive intersection to access our parking area. Please let us know if you are travelling to Jackson by motorhome or pulling a trailer so we can direct you to an alternative parking area. There is overflow parking for most trips after 9:00am. We do have an additional overflow parking area for circumstances where the parking lot gets full. The overflow parking area is based in Grand Teton Plaza next to the Gun Barrel Steak & Game House, located at 862 West Broadway. You can follow the sidewalk south to the traffic signals, cross the street to the right at the light then head left toward the large American flag and you will spot our Barker-Ewing River Trips check-in office.
Are children allowed on the whitewater or float trip?
Children are allowed on the snake river rafting trips. However, there is a minimum requirement for children to be 6 years old (approximately 45 pounds) for the summer season. The early rafting season can cause high water levels, where we increase the minimum age to 8-10 years old.
For our scenic float trips, we have a minimum age of children for 4 years old (approximately 40 pounds) for the summer season. During the early rafting season, there may be higher water levels where we will increase the minimum age restrictions as safety is always our priority.
What happens to our trip if it rains?
Our whitewater rafting and scenic float trips go ahead whether it is a day filled with sunshine or rain. On whitewater trips, you are going to get wet anyway! On scenic float trips, rain showers often come and go quickly, and we are always prepared with complimentary splash gear in every one of our boats.
In cases of extreme weather, we may take the decision to cancel or reschedule trips. You are most welcome to give us a call regarding the weather forecast an hour before your trip, but the final decision is likely to be made upon meeting at our arranged location for your scheduled rafting trip.
What should we wear and bring for our whitewater rafting or float trip?
For the Jackson Hole Scenic Float Trips, we recommend bringing an extra layer as it is always better to have too much than too little. You can remove or add layers in accordance with the weather changes which can be unpredictable. Wear comfortable soft-soled shoes for walking. You may also wish to bring cameras and/or binoculars, which are both welcome and are generally not at risk.
For Whitewater Rafting Trips, we recommend wearing swimsuit or clothes that you do not mind getting wet. Cotton is not advised to wear on the river, but synthetic fabrics such as nylon and polypropylene are ideal as they dry quickly. On cooler days, we have neoprene wetsuits and river boots available for rent on trip check-in. Secure shoes are required, please avoid flip-flops.
Bring a towel or dry clothing to change into after your whitewater rafting trip so you may travel in comfort for the 40-minute return ride to Jackson. There will be forest service restrooms for use at the landing. You may also want to consider bringing sunglasses (secure with Croakies), hats and sunscreen. We do not recommend cameras and binoculars on whitewater rafting trips.
We provide complimentary splash jackets for all river trips.
